Default S430 Knocking Sound From the Rear Quater

Hi, when driving over bumps and holes i'm getting a knocking coming from the rear quarter. It sounds like shock absorber but not sure what the set up is on S Class with Air Suspension etc. Can anyone offer me some guidance please??

Thanx, Mark - Wales, UK.

S430, 1999.

hey im a mercedes tech and it sounds like it might be a rear sway bar link thats worn out-if you look under the vehicle and see the rear sway bar youll see the link-grab a hold of it and move it around and if you can feel play then the joints are worn out and i always recomend replacing them in pairs-this is the one thing that comes to mind hard to finda noise when youve never heard it
hope i can help ya out

one thing i should have mentioned is i have never tried to check a sway bar link while a vehicle was on the ground only when it is on my hoist at the shop so im not sure if youll be able to feel movement or not, you mave have to jack the rear of the vehicle off the ground

Ah! Didn't notice any problem but it may very well be due to it being grounded. Will jack her up and check it out. Thanks again for your time.
