Running troubles
Hello, I am new to the forum. I drive a 2005 SLK55 which until recently was running sweet as a nut.
The running has become very poor, to the extent that it has lost severe power and hesitates under heavy acceleration. Unfortunately i'm not in the vicinity of a Mercedes garage or dealership and I do not feel safe in driving long distances.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? I don't fancy being royally screwed by a garage for unnessecary work.
Thanks.
P.S. Since the incident, cabbages have started coming out of the exhaust.

Joke or do you refer to a smell?
Do you have the CEL Check Engine Light on?
Have you refuelled SINCE this problem started? If not you could try this so long as the tank is not to full.
Anything else wrong that might be associated?
Mileage?
Unusual without the CEL on.
Your next step is to get the EMS Engine Management System codes read. Any garage with a scanner will do this.
The DTC Diagnostic Fault Codes will give us a clue as to what might be wrong.
If the CEL is NOT ON then WITH CAUTION the vehicle should be fit to drive from an engine/transmission point of view.
