hey guys,

I have recently been doing some research on tires for my girlfriend on her car (C230 sport). According to tirerack the tire sizes are:
Original Equipment Front 225/45-17
Original Equipment Rear 245/40-17
I would assume that you do not rotate the tire since the width are totally different, correct?

No don't rotate tires of different widths or sizes. I am not a big believer in rotating tires. I do, about every 10K miles or more and only if they show signs of wear. On my 99 C280 the orginal tires had 50K miles plus on them and I never rotated them. and they wore just fine.

Tire shops, dealers etc, tell you to rotate your tires evry 5K ot 6K miles. To me this is just another way of making a few extra bucks for themselves. I keep my tire pressure correct, and don't do 25mph corners at 45mph and have the whell alignment checked every two years and as I said my C280 is on it second set of tires, not with close to 9K miles and they show no sign of wear.

Also, I don't buy Kmart of Walmar tires, I buy the best tire I can afford. With the best mileage rating and wear rating.

I agree with C280 but would like to add that many tyres MUSN'T be rotated since they are sensitive to the direction of rotation due to assymetric tread pattern. (Marked with an arrow)
