restarting parked 300CE 1991 after 2 years
I parked my 1991 300CE two years ago, with a dead battery, and a low gas tank. I would now like to get the car started and possibly sell it. When it was running it ran perfectly, but decided to save money on insurance by parking the car. My cousin works on Mercedes and has said that all I need to do is get a new battery, put in gas and let the oil that has been sitting in the engine heat up, after that change the oil and I should be good. Someone else said I need to drop the engine and drain it of the gas. I already know that letting it set for two years wasn't the best plan, but the economy won, and taking it to the dealer or my cousin would probably cost me more than the car is worth. Help!
I'd do all that, but I'd drain as much of the old fuel as possible before adding any new. Have spare filters handy; the fuel filter might plug up quickly after you do get it running.
I'd pull the intake system (ducts and filter housing) and check for rodent or insect activity.
I'd jack the car up and spin the wheels - the rotors may have seized to the pads. And spin the wheels by hand to get bearing grease moved around, and differential oil circulated.
Good Luck.
