Replacing an ignition key cylinder
Has anyone replaced an ignition key cylinder? We are stuck. Or shall I say, the cylinder is stuck. We have tried the regular methodbut, thecylinder wont slide out. The new key willturn in the cylinder but, that is as far as it goes. Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Replacing an ignition key cylinder
Assuming we're talking about the 89 300E you have listed in your profile once the plastic bezel is removed there is a black steel collar covering the outer end of the steering column lock item #32 in the illustration which must be pulled off and you will want a new one of those.
Once this is off you should find a small detent pin from the lock cylinder protruding through a hole in the column lock housing.
With the key in it's proper position (press on the pin and rotate the key until the pin depresses) you can depress the detent pin and lift the lock cylinder out with the key.
If this doesn't work you may have to drill out the lock cylinder core until it can be extracted, never a fun job.
