rechroming a grill
I had a "58 that worked well, mostly because there is shop in this county that does plating, And I could not easily locate another part.
The older grilles are thicker and more sturdy, and withstand being stripped, re-polished, and re-plated very well. I think if I had any grille after maybe...1985...I would just buy a new one from the dealer.
Yeah, they dip them in acid to remove the old chrome, then buff and sand all the rust off, make any weld-repairs, re-sand the entire thing for smoothness and good electrical contact, then dip it in nickel, then dip it in chrome. The process may have changed with recent environmental concerns. A far as quality, look at a shop's other work or samples.
