So I picked up my benz this past weekend. We had a lot of trouble getting it started. It didn't help that it was raining and only had limited time. But anyway, we managed to eventually get it started and I drove it home. It's weird because once she gets going she runs flawlessly.

Today after work I started going through the bay checking on some things. Installed a new battery, fixed some wiring, cleaned out the air filter/intake, and she still fails to start.

As of this past June (2012), she has received the following:
- new tires
- new glow plugs
- new fuses
- new headlights
- new solenoid
- new starter
- (alternator new 6 months ago)

What really stumbles me is that it will crank over and occasionally will fire for a second but then nothing... Also, when I drove it home there wasn't a single thing wrong with its driving ability.

So, what am I over-looking? I bought the car for $600 (quick sale; guy leaves for 6 years in Army) so I am willing to put "some" cash into it if I must. Please, any advice is appreciated! This will be my daily so I need her to start up...

 

Thank you. My stepdad asked his bus mechanic about what to do earlier today... he said the same exact thing. So... looks like I need to go buy some filters (needs an air filter as well). And as far as the valve adjustment : When I drove it home I definitely could tell I'd have to do this.

Now, question is... What brand/model is best?

 

So i changed both fuel filters, cleaned the air filter, tightened some wires & hoses, and it still made no difference. Cranks but no fire. It got too dark to adjust the valves so that will be done tomorrow. I'm hoping that will fix it...
