Default Petrol in a B200 diesel

Hello all

My dad has unfortunately put the wrong fuel in yesterday. It’s a 2010 model 2 litre (automatic if it matters).

There was probably about a quarter of a tank of diesel in when we filled up with petrol. Managed to get a little more diesel in the top after he realised his mistake.

He drove it home slowly (all his driving is very slow now!) and said it wasn’t running very well on the way back. It’s only a five minute journey, maybe 3 miles.

I’ve tried googling it but seems to get mixed thoughts from “I did that and it has been fine for years all the way to “needs most of the engine components changing (at vast expense).

Which of these is more likely the case and has he done any damage, should he get the tank emptied out etc? Or on an older car like this is it nothing to worry about?

if it does need emptying out is this something I could do for him - I’d really like to be able to help him with it if I can.

thanks in advance for any tips or help.
