passenger side exterior mirror parking position
I just purchased a new 2008 E350, and I can't set the passenger side exterior mirror to a parking assist position. My previous car was a 2004 CLK320, and I used this feature, so I am familiar with the method used to set it. However, on the CLK, there was a setting in the convenience menu to activate this feature. This had to be selected before setting the mirror. In the 2008 E350 there is no setting in any of the menus for this feature, yet the owners manual says you can set the feature anyway.
The instructions for how to set and activate the feature are identical to what they were on the CLK, but no matter how many times I try, it won't set. It's hard for me to believe that after having set this feature several times before in my previous car, that I am doing something wrong. I wonder if Mercedes needs to activate some software or something that wasn't done.
If anybody has any experience of suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rex

I WORK AT A DEALERSHIP AND YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THEM ANDTHEY WILL BE ABLE TO RESET THE CODING TO ALLOW THE PARK POSITION TO FUNCTION. THEY GOT RID OF A LOT OF THE OPTIONS IN THE NEW CODINGS BUT LEFT THEM IN THE COMPUTERS TO ALLOW IT LATER ON.
when key in postion 2, not engine on, and car in reverse, set mirror to position you desire then just hit the M button and nothing else. should be set now.

I tried that, but it didn't work. As I mentioned previously, I used to set this function on my ClK, so am familiar with the "technique." I followed the instructions outlined above but nothing happened.

make sure the mirror switch is set to the passenger side when trying to reverse?? or you could have a bad door control module?? maybe try to leave car in park instead of reverse?? maybe try key position1.
I have tried it with the car in reverse and in park, and I always make sure the passenger side mirror is selected with the switch. I haven't tried it with the key in position 1, and I will. But I don't have much hope of it working. I tend to think what the other person that answered this message said, that I need to take it back to the dealer and get the codes activated, is probably correct. I have tried all of these methods of selecting the passenger side mirror, set its position, pushing just the M button, pushing the m button and then within three seconds pushing the bottom of the button that moves the mirror, as it says to do in the manual, but nothing works.
My 2007 is the same way. The owner's manual says to activated in the convenience menu, but there is no listing for it.
I will ask the dealer next time I go in for a service if there is a way they can activate it.

shift in reverse, adjust to your desired position, press m, and momentarily press any adjustment direction till it moves a little... release buttons.
