ok im kinda new to the german car mechanics. i was just wondering what kind of oil does everyone use?? i know that in 98 mercedes used synthetic in all of their engines. i have a 94 c280 and i was just curious as to what brand everyone else uses? i know it calls for 15w-40 grade of oil (deisel oil??) also can you switch to a synthetic oil or is that not a wise choice on a mercedes???? like i said im new to the mercedes realm, thus i value everyones opinions. thanks

 

The synthetic should be Just fine I hve a friend who swears his benz is starting to run more quietly and smoothly with every oil change since he started to run the synthetic

 

Can't go wrong with synthetic oil. Concerns over switching from dino to synthetic is an urban legend.

15w-40 sounds a little thick for a little high-revving v6 engine, but if that's what it calls for, then hey. It must run really hot.

 

YUP..mercedes recommends 15w-40 oil. i have a friend that works at mercedes. my 94 c280 has the inline 6cyl

 

I think Mercedes recommends 15-40 but for synthetics 5w 50 is recommended. I have syns in my truck, Harley & 560. The ONLY way to go. Also recommend K&N filters (air & oil).

 

i may get a k&n air filter but i use only mercedes oil filters
