Default New Benz owner in need of help!!

I recently purchased an 89 300E. Its a beautiful car and ran great the first 3 days I owned it.Now its idling rough and when you give it throttle, it seems to stall, almost as if its a fuel problem, and won't go anywhere until you give it about 3/4 throttle. I'm new to Mercedes and was so enthusiastic about this purchase but I'm stumped and don't know where to start. Plus, this is turning out to be a terrible gift to my wife!!

was there any reliable mechanics in your area?

this CIS-E fuel injection is quite a complicated system and not so easy for you to troubleshoot... considering you only have it for a few days.

just do the basic check first by knowledgeable person, then we can proceed from there.

Well, it almost sounds like the throttle position sensor, but it could be EGR valve sticking as well.
It's easy to check connections of times a connection issue will lead to problems.

I would get some contact cleaner and disconnect things and spray them and reconnect them.

Ask the previous owner if they experienced the same thing. Could be that they had it 'fixed' ny a mechanic and this could lead you to the suspect component.

Good luck.

Hi Folks i am having a similar problem ,after a re engine .i am having problems getting it started .Timing is Ok chercked about 12 times! Fuel coming from dissy nozzles when cracked open when cranking engine .Loads of compression .But it is trying to start but just doesnt want to take over from starter .I think it is being starved of fuel as it trys to start .I have bypassed inj pump with pins 7& 8 so dissy is getting good fuel supply .What could cause fuel pressure to reduce at starting point .It may be that i have a wrong plug connection as there are a lot of identical plugs around inlet manifold.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a w124 230te ? i would even pay via pay pal for good scans of wiring diagrams and vacuum pump routing ?
Can the engine be run without the air cleaner fitted .I have tried both with and without ,but for obvious reassons i would prefer to leave it off untill i get things sorted
Thanks for looking Steve
