Default Need Help! 2000E320 Transmission

My heart is broken over my dream car! I bought a 2000 E320 4matic 4 years ago with 48,000 miles. Now at 75,000 miles the transmission started slipping (wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th and then would lurch)and mechanic says I need a new one. How is this possible? I worked so hard to pay for this car and planned on driving it for at least another 10 years. Now my husband says if it needs a new tranny forget it, he will get rid of it and put me in a Honda.

From a Mercedes to a Honda? I can't do it! I have been in tears for 2 days! Anyone have this problem and what can I do? Please help! I cannot find anything on anyone having this problem with this car at such low miles!

Default RE: Need Help! 2000E320 Transmission

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Many folks fell for the bull**** about "Lifetime Fill" as this related to the automatic transmissions which essentially told people that they never had to do anything as it related to their transmissions. This was done by Yuppie marketing ****** who were trying to change the public perception that German cars were maintenence intensive (which they are) by comparison to their Japanese and American counterparts. It was also during the time when the factorys were touting their "free service"-which usually amounted to little more than an oil change every 15,000 miles. That having been said, there's something you can try...Get a quart of Trans-X and add it to your transmission. If the trans is malfunctioning because it is gummed up from no trans fluid changes, this will often bring it back to opperational status. If it works, it will most probably work within 1000 miles. If it does work, then change everything (fluid, gasket and trans fluid) every 30000 miles. Remember to have them drain the torque converter as well when this work is done and to clean the pan well.
Best of luck. let me know how you make out.

Regards,

Will
