locking sound in 2001 S430 mercedes
I have an S430 that has a locking sound coming from the doors and trunk. The dealer replaced the pump and lock on the trunk but the locking sound is still coming from the doors, even though they are locked. The dealer says they cannot reproduce the sound. It happens every time I pull off after the car has been turned off for a while and while driving intermittently, even though the doors are locked. It is like it is checking to see if the doors are locked. I have tried taking off the automatic lock on the doors, but the locking sound still continues. This has been happening since I've owned the car for over 3 years. Now since the pump and lock have been replaced on the trunk, it is making a clicking noise from the trunk also, (which was not there before the pump and lock were replaced). Can you please help me, the sound is driving my crazy.

can't it be the power assist for the door closing?
it seems that a signal is recieved which a door isn't locked or closed.
i can't tell much without detailed explanation or seeing the car.

I agree with Sleepwalker's statement BUT.
You say the problem continues with the auto lock turned OFF thru the steering column menu.
So this noise occurs with the doors locked (all 4 buttons down) as well as Unlocked (all 4 buttons u)p. If so very strange.
Why do you make the link to it being the door locks?
Do the buttons move from unlock to lock or vice versa when the "noise" occurs??
Need more details of exactly when this occurs, speed, temp, traffic, how often, etc. etc. etc.
Create a log and share it with us when you have a few entries.
