knock control fault code
"check engine" came on. knowing nothing about cars, i bought a code reader and found fault code is P1386 "knock control". any idea of this is gonna be another big ticket repair to my 97 e420? also found a pending code for P0335 "crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction (L5)" Can anyone translate that one for me before i visit the local MB shop? thanks for any 'heads up'

RE: knock control fault code
Hi,
Not come across this before but it could be the Crank Position Sensor CPS.
Since knock is being sensed the engine management system should be altering the ignition setting so as to prevent/correct knock but for some reason it is unable to do so.
Since you also have a CPS error, and this is the key input to engine timing, which in turn is linked to Knock, a new CPS may be the answer.
Easy DIY low cost job but I can't be 100% on this is the issue.
Before replacing the CPS ensure the connector / connection is good and corrosion free.
JFI what fuel are you using. The recommended grade I trust.
