how to replace light in the instrument pannel, & question re; the climate control on a 1986 300e
Hello,
I noticed yesterday that the light that iluminates the little digital termometer in the instrument panel doesn't work anymore. It still read the temerature alright but buggs me a little bit that the light is out. I see that there's a special tool to remove the pannel. Will it be worth my while to buy it and do it myself or just go to the dealership and get it done there?? (personal experiences are very much welcomed).
the other thing i noticed while looking for answers, is that some people mentioned having problems with their climate control, where the 2 central vent outlets stop working when you switch from cold air to hot air. I have the same problem, in the summer the central vents where working just fine, since it got colder and switched it to warmer airflow, they have stop working and even when i tried to get cold air the central vents won't work for a while, and then all the sudden you could feel the air coming out from them.but it doesn't happen all the times. Some said that that's the way the car works an others that there's a vacumm leak somewhere...... but there was no clear answer.. has anybody come up with anything new on that??
Thanks.

You need to identify the type of car you are inquiring about. Year and type. Fill it out in your profile. There should never be warmed air from the center dash vents, if its a Mercedes. The delay from warm to cold and then the center vents blowing cold is just the in car temperature sensor adjusting for the change of temperature you dialed in, normal!
Thanks. I worte the type of car on the subjet of the question but i guess it was too llong to fit. it's a 1986 300e. (added to the profile as suggested).
good to hear that the hot air won't come out from the centre vents.. i was starting to think i had to remove the dashboard and fix it.
Re: my first question. phoned the dealership, got a lightbulb (fortunatelly don't need to replace the entire digital thermometre. bulb costs CDN$ 5 and the hooks to remove the instrument cluster $22. Will work on replacing the bulb tomorrow and I'm hoping it won't take very long.
Thanks again for the feedback on the hot/cold air from the centre vents.
