Default How to get Key for E320 Wagon 2002?

Hi,

I need extra keys for my wagon and checked with dealer. They are asking for $170 a piece. Is there a way to get this cheaper?

You can buy the key for $25 from ebay but my dealer won't program this as he says it comes from MB Texas programmed directly. Not sure if this is a correct statement.

Just need some inputs on how go go about this.

Thanks.

DS, I am sorry to say that the only way to get extra keys is through the dealer. My keys are $79 each and you have to prove that in fact that you own the car. My car is older than yours so it will be cheaper

I've researched this subject for a while and, while I DON'T have direct evidence....,all the postings suggest that if you own a car after say 1995, you are SOOL (S--T Out Of Luck).
Gotto buy from dealer and dont waste your time with eBay. I was EXTREMELY lucky... I went back to my brother-in-law (whom I bought the car from) and he went back to his co-worker (whom he bot the car from) and he had found the extra missing key. I still don't have it in my grubby hands but hopefully I will in a a couple of weeks.
Good luck....but....don't bother with eBay keys.
While I don't have to find out the cheapest value from different dealers I was asked $250 for my 1997 e320 and I have seen a lot of refernces to about $175 lately for "newer" cars

Mercedes has made its "keys" much more hi-tech in the past decade.
First it came out with remote control w/fold key, then the SmartKey, which relies in infrared/radio frequency to start the car. When they introduced the "keyless-go", even the use of both remote and key are not needed. Just get in, drive, and get out.
Mercedes owners are pissed off when they lose their keys and had to replace it with O.E. paying dealer price. It is all about making money, but thats what businesses do, and thats why it stilll exists after more than a century.
Look on the bright side, it adds a lot more security than the ordinary keys. Keys are less expensive and easier to replace/duplicate, but don't forget, owners aren't the only ones duplicating/replacing the keys.
