Default HELP NEEDED - BMW

Guys - Help is needed. My BMW '97; 540i will start and after less than 2 minutes, it will shut off. Sometimes, the 'oil change' light will be ON but now it is ON and will not go off. I top up the engine oil and coolant and these do not help. I bought the car about a year ago and never tune-up the engine. Apart from the latter statement, the car has been running great.
Any suggestions. Please help.[8D]

bimmerforums.com is not as helpful as mercedesforum.com.
Sometimes, it takes forever to get assistance on the bimmerforum.
Many experts in foreign cars on this website than others and you will agree with me.

Guys - the fuel filter is under the vehicle, driver side & below the trunk area. Above driver side of rear axle and it is mounted on the frame.

Still need help - WHAT YOU MEAN BY JUMPER ON TERMINAL 1 & 7 AND WHERE TO FIND IT?

Thanks Sleepwalker. I changed the fuel filter. So far so good, the engine does not stop like before. Since changing the fuel filter, the situation happened only twice. I am still afraid to take the car on a long trip.
I put in gas treatment, maybe it will also help.
Can you tell me where to find the "jumper on terminal 1 & 7?
