I HAVE AN 1982 380 SL I DON'T HAVE AN OWNERS MANUAL. TOOK HARD TOP OFF, BUT COULDN'T GET TO THE CONVERTABLE TOP.
HOW DO YOU RELEASE THE SURROUND METAL FLAP? HOW DO YOU PUT UP THE CONVERTABLE TOP?

 

Hi - crank the handle behind the driver side seat either down towards the rear bench or up and forward towards the front of the vehicle. This should pop the cover over the convertible top. Fold the cover back all the way, pull op the canvas top and lift the rear end of it up high so you can close the lid again.

 

I DID THAT AND ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE FLAP OR LIPRELEASED THE PASSANGER SIDE FLAP OR LIPDIDN'T RELEASE.

 

If you can wait until the weekend, I'll send you what the owners manual says about the whole process.

I don't know if there is an electronic version of it... remember that these cars were built before the web or even PCs were available. I just ordered the Official shop-floor manual and should have that in house early next week. It comes with a CD, and may have a lot of info. mercedesmanuals.com
