Default Getting it started after 2 yrs storage.

1987 mod.107 560SL - stored 2 yrs. with gas untreated. I changed the gas & filter, i have gas pressure, gas in the return line but the car will not start. It will start & run if you prime it in the intake but will stop when that fuel is burned. Is there a particular line or orfice I should clean out?? Help!

Yes, you should get someone to check the fuel screen at the fitting that comes directly out of the fuel tank. If the inside of the tank is rusty, that screen will clog first and choke off the fuel. I would say that it is a pretty dangerous project and should be performed by a professional mechanic. Obviously, when disconnecting the hoses, alarge amount of fuel could spill and start a fire.

I agree letting one sit is the worst thing. There is a reason behind that too, which is practically the entire fuel system is made of plain steel and it rusts on the inside. Everything from the fuel tank to the fuel lines to the fittings, plain steel. When it sits, especially outside, all the water they emulsify into the gasoline falls out of solution and rusts the system. I have heard of a number of ways to attempt to prevent this, but certainly some precaution should be taken. Your block is probably fine. I have seen them endure the unbelievable. The little screens inside the injectors are probably clogged full of rust, as well as the screen where the fuel line enters the FI body. You need to perform a volume test into a 1liter bottle, and time it. Do you have fuel pressure?

Yeah, storage. It may actually be better to put 25k per year on one than to let it sit. Everytime I let one sit, it starts to go bad, yet my CLK, never even cooled off and only two parts (sensors)in 200k miles. Outside or inside makes a huge difference too. Buy two of any product, and put one outside and one inside and watch the difference, wow, Mother nature is rough. Youll get her running again, but try not to lose your temper if you find yourself performing a front to rear fuel system inspection.
