extended warranty questions
Hey guys,
I used to do all my own work on my BMW, but now I have an extended warranty on my 2001 ML320. Having seen some of the prices for the parts, I would prefer to have it covered by some type of warranty. Also, I do not think Hayes makes a repair manual for my car. This week, I recieved a sales letter from a company that provides extended warranty for 60k+ mile cars. Does anyone have any information about these type of warranties or some leads on some other companies that provide this type of service so I can shop around. Also, does anyone know where I can get a good repair manual for my car.
Thanks,
Wild MB

If you were a Clark Howard (a consumer activist AM radio show) listener, then you would know that warranties sold by companies other than the car manufacturer are usually a waste of money. They tend to cover only major catastrophic events and not the things that just quit working. It may even be like pulling teeth to get any money out of them. Most will reimburse you after you pay for repairs and you have to jump through hoops to get your money back. You will need cash to get repairs done, so if that is an issue, the warranty won't help. Don't expect a repair facility to front you any repairs or collect the money for you unless it is a factory new car warranty extension.
A good policy would cover EXACTLY the same items as the warranty you got if you purchased the vehicle new. Please check out company well. What you are buying is an insurance policy. Hope this helps. Good luck.
