extended warranty
Permit me to use this existing thread for my MBZ extended factory warranty question...
I'm taking delivery from a MBZ dealer in 2 days for a CPO '09 CLK550 that is 5 months old. There will be 4yrs.7 mos./97Kmi. remaining on the factory warranty. I plan to keep the car at least that long and then *maybe* sell it. I'm not a mechanic and don't do my own maintenance work. The dealer is offering an additional 2 years factory warranty for $1925.
Question: If I were to sell the car after 4-5 years, is the remaining 2-year factory warranty a worthwhile selling point?

Yes! CPO is a factory extended warranty. This means no deductibles! No waiting for a clams inspector! It is the same as the new car warranty only they do not cover things like trim, light bulbs or rattles. CPO is way better than any add-on warranty.
Nonki check with your local Mercedes dealer and see the what warranty they sell. They will have more pull with the warranty company they deal with. We use Easy Care. They are preaty good. Stay away from any that have stated labor rates. Like they will pay $80 dollars an hour so you are stuck with the rest of the bill. Royal is good for this. Good luck!

To follow up with my extended warranty situation described above...
I ended up buying the additional 2-year Mercedes factory warranty for $1925. I now have a total of 6 yrs-7 mos, 96.5K mi. warranty remaining on my 5-month old CLK550 with 3350 miles (original 4 yrs + CPO 1 yr + extended 2 yrs minus 5 mos old).
According to the dealer I bought it from, there are 2 important considerations with the Mercedes factory warranty.
1) It is a contract between Mercedes and me. If I sell the car, the warranty does not automatically go with it. I have to execute paperwork to transfer the warranty to someone else. In other words, I can use the warranty as leverage when selling the car. If a buyer wants to chisel me on price, I'll simply hold back the warranty.
2) If I don't transfer the warranty when I sell the car and the warranty period hasn't begun yet, I can sell the warranty back to Mercedes. The dealer may have been blowing smoke on that one, but I'll use what he said when negotiating with a potential buyer if I sell the car.
Then again, (1) and (2) may be moot. I'm loving my new CLK550.
