My 1984500 SEL overheated in the RED on the temp guage and blew off the topradiatorhose. Coolantleaked out. I replaced the thermostat and it still over heats after a few minuted of driving and coolant continues to leak and boils in the coolant resurvior. One shop thinks I may have blown a head gasket. Can I diagnose an overheating engine problem and repair a blow head gasket? Or could there be other problems. What does it costto get a head gasket replaced?
Any sugestions from Forum members would be appreciated.

Headgaskets are variant depending where you take it, but probably more than 2k to repair. Will it overheat at highway speeds or is it at idle? Do you know if your radiator and engine fans are working properly? Any noticable leaks in lines or the radiator?

Yes, the car was only overheating at freeway speed. I did replacce the thermostat and le the car run and idle for about 10 minutes. Initially it ran a little hot with no leaks. However, as soon as I put it on the freeway at 65MPH, the engineguage went in theRED. The radiator leaked coolant and recovery resuvior began to bubble hot coolant.During that time no white exhaust was coming from the engine.I appreciate all of your advice.
Any more suggestions for me to check andif it is a head gasket ca I replace it myself(DIY) over a couple of weekends?
