Engine Light
I have 1998 E 300 TD When it is cold out,15 degrees F and lower when first started sometimes the turbo does not function. The occasions for this are random but only when severely cold. I will drive the car for sometime, usually off and on for an hour, the turbo will start working again but light clears when it feels like it. Never happens during the other three months of the year.
Probably a cracked vacuum hose or sticky transducer. Find the wastegate and follow its hose, looking for cracked or hard rubber joints and replace the transducer if the hoses look good.
Also, a 300TD is a station wagon. The correct name format is 1998 E300. Being a 98, its automatically a turbo model.
