EGR Disable vs Remove

EGR Disable vs Remove
I read where you can remove the EGR with a kit "OR" disable the EGR by blocking the Intake Vacuum tube and putting a BB in the actual Valve. What I read suggested that this would both increase performance and MPG's.
My questions are:
1- Which would be the preferred method?
2- Will this boost power and increase MPG's?
3- Are there any adverse implications that would result from such a modification?
Thanks
Bill
