if you see the light on ,it mean the function of asr was disable already .you can just take the bulb off your sign........but sometimes is the throttle actuator will cost your idle and the gas milages more to spend.......
try to replace the brake light switch .........

The ASR system can not be fully disabled. (same with ESP)

MioCLK - Please explain further. When the switch is off, the ASR is still on? I hate ASR even more now. What does the switch do?

I had a '98 Camaro and someone firgured out how to "rewire" some wires under the dash so it would default to ASR off on startup. I had an '01 Tahoe where a harness was available commercially that did the same.

No-go no-how on the MB?

When "switched off", the system wiill allow more wheel-spin before it takes over.
ASR works with ABS (drive wheel only, ESP works with all four) and the engine controller unit, both are Bosch products.
When wheel spin occurs, the system will cut down the engine power and/or apply brakes to gain traction.
Toyota / Lexus also has a similar system which it can't be fully disable.
My friend who has an IS300 (fitted with Supra twin-turbo engine) and he is dying to find out if anyone can disable it the system, 100%. I doubt the ASR is any easier to work with. (I know some Mercedes owner who can't get the correct dyno-testing nuimber because they couldn't disable the ESP/ ASR system)

Try this at home.
Turn off the ASR, and try to do a burn out. You'll notice the loss of power when you see the ASR warning begans to blink.

But MioCLK says it doesn't turn off all the way when the switch is turned off.

I've done MioCLK's at-home test before for other reasons. That is, doing a burnout with ASR switched off. My tires will just melt off if I don't let up. If engine power is reduced through ASR it isn't enough for me to tell a difference.

ASR Functions

1 Wheel slips 2 Wheels slip

Below 40 km/h(25mph) Brake applied First Throttle controlled First
Throttle controlled Second Brakes applied Second

Above 40 km/h(25mph) Throttle controlled First Throttle controlled First
Brakes applied Second Brakes applied Second

Turns, 20-120km/h
(12 to 75mph) Throttle controlled First Throttle controlled First
Brakes applied Second Brakes applied Second
(With lower slip threshold)
above is the mebe asr theory
if you guys disagreed then not my fault ,you can yell at benz dealer[&:]

it's not that easy to skid the tires at 40km/h not unless you're on icy road.

on technical side, we use the ASR switch for workshop testing purpose only.

yes, the engine power is reduced in ASR and increased in MSR. yurning it off might give you more wide open throttle.
