Dead Battery- how to jump start
Recently purchase a 1995 SL 500. Never had a problem with battery even after several weeks of sitting. Battery went dead with out warning. Dash was locked so I can't get manual out of door compartment and cannot access battery behind driver seat because it is also locked. How do you jump start this vehicle? Is it better to call service? I know there are things to be reset?

You can open the car with Your mechanical key at the drivers door and/or at the trunk lock.
In the trunk at the right side You find the battery.
To jump start:
- first connect the cable for +Poles
- then connect the cable for -Poles
- turn off all loads in the car
- start the SL
- if the engine runs, turn on heavy loads like seat heating, fan full speed... but no lights
- then disconnect the cabel for -Poles
- then disconnect the cabel for +Poles
Later on check the battery, it is sulphated probably after the long durability - then itĀ“s better to take a new one.
Later on, if You maybe open the car to remove the old battery, wait 4 Minutes to avoid alarm (if existing).
Preparations after jump start / new battery:
- Radio code is described in the Manual
- set time in the kombi instrument (and auxiliary heating, if existing)
- activate steering angle sensor by turning the steering completely right and left
That should be all, hope i didnĀ“t forget something...

Peter
