Just purchased a S 500 2004 4matic and made the mistake of putting a cd in the player when another one was already inserted. I could not extract either one and took control center out to see if I could maybe extract the cd's. No success, so I reinserted and screwed it back into the dash. However, after that there was no power. MB techs determined that I had somehow broken the fiber optic power connection to the unit and they said I would have to have them reinstall a whole system ($5,300) because the fiber optic power connection was broken. My question is: is there any way to install either an 'after market' system to replace the old one or are there other systems (Alpine, etc.) that could replace the old one? I'm assuming there is no way to repair the 'broken fiber optic connection'. Please give me some ideas. Thanks.
