P0600 is a "Serial Comms link"
P0705 is a "Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction"
Looks as though something must be wrong with the PRNDL (driver gear selection) electrical connections / comms
You don't state age mileage history etc. Corrosion / water ingress? Look VERY carefully around connection pins.

Thanks for your reply. Had the car checked and replaced the gear shifter, reset the codes...alls fine.
Just bought the 2001 E430 with 77760 miles a few weeks ago..... I don't think I spilled anything by the shifter but that is the symptom according to the mechanic and other MB forums.
