Default Clk 320 Cabriolet Trans fluid

The trans acts like it may be low on fluid, and the manual says take it to the dealer to have it checked. Right! Like I want to spend $200 to have them put 3 buck worth of oil in the tranny. I found what appears to be the fill pipe, at the left, rear of the engine. It has a cap with "Factory only" or something to that effect on it. Is this the filler pipe? Also, is there a fluid level plug on the transmission case, or does the factory man just run a wire gage down the filler pipe? Any help will certainly be appreciated.
