Clk 320 Cabriolet Trans fluid

The trans acts like it may be low on fluid, and the manual says take it to the dealer to have it checked. Right! Like I want to spend $200 to have them put 3 buck worth of oil in the tranny. I found what appears to be the fill pipe, at the left, rear of the engine. It has a cap with "Factory only" or something to that effect on it. Is this the filler pipe? Also, is there a fluid level plug on the transmission case, or does the factory man just run a wire gage down the filler pipe? Any help will certainly be appreciated.

Thanks so much. Now for the next question that I should have included in my original post: What type fluid does it take? Dexron, Type F, or ?????:o
