The climate control fan on my '95 C280 squeaks (especially at low speeds). How do I get to it to lubricate it? What lubricant would be most effective (WD40)?

 

Not surprising, as my 99 C280 fan is starting to spuak on Hi fan for the last few months, on and off but it still squeaks. Mercedes told me it is a closed unit and has to be replaced. But if there is a will there is a way, and I am going to have some look at it, and see if the unit can to taken apart and the fan greased of replace. I understand it is the bearings tha go bad. I had a Audi with the same problem and same story form Audi. But this unit was mounted under the hood on the cowl, so it was relatively easy to take about and I use bearing grease on the fan and bearings and it wa quiet for the two more years I owned the car. On the Audi, then fan starting squeaking after 10 years use, so you are in the squeaky fan ball park.
