Car revival after 4 years of sleep...
Hi all,
I'm starting to resurrect my project car, a 1981 380SL, that's been sitting for four years in a field in Florida. Contrary to what you might think, other than having a totally trashed interior, there's no rust to speak of and the car is complete.
Ok, so here's my question: I'm looking for a process to restart the engine. I'm thinking I need to drop the gas tank and flush it with gas or something to clean it, then pull the fuel pump and clean that and make sure it's functional, then replace the fuel filter and re-install of the above. Put a few gallons of fresh gas in the tank and then disconnect the fuel line at the rail and run the pump for a few minutes to clear out the fuel line, then reconnect it all. Then, will pull all the spark plugs and squirt a little WD-40 into the cylinders and replace the plugs.
Then theoretically, it should crank and start. Am I missing anything?
Thanks!
P
