slkdude,
Your engine can be rebuilt as you probably have a bent rod or two. Trying to compress a liquid is always bad news! Another thought is to buy a good used engine. Try www.car-part.com.
Good luck,
John

4' to 5" of rain can cause hydrolock?
I thought that could only happen if you drive through deep flood waters!
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Here it sometimes rains real heavy and I do drive my W203 in the rain with
some sections of the flooded but not that deep.
Shan.

MB for some INEXPLICABLE reason terminate the air inlet in the region of the engine coolant radiator. Certainly it leads to a easy installation but at what cost!
When wading it is important that the "bow" wave doesn't reach this area otherwise you end up taking a gulp of water.
Although only 4" deep I suspect that you proceeded at a speed which caused a "bow" wave.
When I was a designer of such systems we always ensured that it was not possible to"gulp" water by placing the inlet in the wheelarch area above the wheel arch liner. On deep water wading (over 3 feet) vehicles we used a snorkel
