Cabin filter on 320CDI
Just joined the forum, glad to find it. My Father purchased a 320 cdi about a year ago. Closest dealer is 2 hours away. Had to take him to his dr.s appointment the other day in the same town as the dealer. Scheduled a appointment a week in advance to get oil changed. They were wanting to change the air filter and cabin filter , was going to cost around 500.00 dollars with the oil change. Car has 4600 miles on it and I told them just to change the oil. Question is this, I can change the air filter myself, not sure where the cabin filter is, if anyone could tell me I think I can replace the filters without spending the 500.00 dollars. If I can even buy the filters without going through Mercedes, don't know if I can even get the filters.
Long story and not trying to be cheap, but we are not wealthy my any means. I did not want my father to purchase the car simply because of the distance to the dealer. He is 80 years old and his health is getting worse and thought I guess I should not try to talk him out of it and just go with the flow on this one. He really does love the car. He had a 1972 220D that he kept for 32 years. I just did not have the heart to talk him out of buying this car. He does not realize though the price of upkeep on this new one as they want you to go back to the dealer for just about everything and folks I just can't afford to pay the 500.00 bucks for replacing some filters.Anyway, enough ranting and raving I guess. Thanks in advance for any help and glad to find this forum.

On my 99 CClass the cabin filter is on the passenger side, under the dash, you have to drop the cover and you will see a a rectangle door with two off white sliding holders, slide them toward the center, Make sure you not how the filter comes out. The first time I did it Ididn't and had a hell of a job getting the new one in. This is for a C Class 99 C280. Audi for example has it mounted under the hood on the cowl and half of the HVAC system has to come apart to remove it.
