C230 Check Engine / Bad Cylinder
Just turned 50K, car is 4.5 Years old. Check Engine light came on. Engine misses once it's warmed up. Dealer has told me it's a cylinder/head problem. I read a thread about a similar problem where the problem was fixed under warranty. Is there an extended warranty period for these types of major problems?
Just before this happened, I had the vehicle in for a standard service and the check oil light illuminated after a bit. I checked the oil level and it was ok. I ended up taking the car back and it was fixed, but I was never told what the problem was. Any chance this contributed to the current problem?
One other problem. Since I purchased the car, I have experienced intermittent headlight problems. Sometimes out/sometimes ok. They could never figure out the problem, but now have said they will have to change out the whole assembly. Is this a common problem (this is being covered since the car was in multiple times).

pca6957,
I apologize for the oddness of the question, but the problem may be quite odd in fact. The nature of the symptoms, including engine malfunction, false readings, weak circuits, dim lights etc, lead me to believe that the problem is related to damaged wiring.Recently I have noticed a number of cases in here, and also my own vehicles that suffered rodent damage to the wires. Micecan and do chew through the rubber body plugs and enter the vehicle. They can also climb into the engine compartmentand chew wires causing strange malfuctions that simply do not appear in the troubleshooting manual.
I cite the case in here where a member's M320 was disabled by rodents while at a camp ground. Another car was completely destroyed by mice while in storage. Ready to replace the flywheel sensor, I noticed that rodents had chewed through the engine wire of my own vehicle when left out side for only three days.
Look for signs of rodent damage. Clues include small piles of shreddedplastic foam etc, visibly chewed surfaces or wires, mouse pellets/feces, materials such as pinestraw, leaves, and nuts stuffed into the car.In your case, you need to inspect your wire harness for chewed and shorted wires. If damaged, you can tape the wires, use heat shrink, or replace them.Mice certainly have good taste in cars.
