C180k sport-package winter tyres
Hello,
this is my first post so i hope it's in the right place..
I got a C180k sedan 2004 model from my father with the sport package(steering wheel, rims, exhaust pipe..)
And after an year it's time for me to change the tyres. But because it's winter time and today we had the first
snow i'm in a bit of a hurry to get winter tyres. I don't know much about tyres(i was thinking about
Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3 or Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 DSST or Nokian).
What size of tyre can i fit on my 17"? The continental that i have are 245/40 on the back
and 225/45 -front.
1.Is it better to have all 4 tyres of the same size?(does it matter?)
2.Can i have smaller tyres?(still 17-- but not so wide) And what are the limits for my rims?(they are the
standard rims for the sport pack)
3.What kind of tyres offer better traction in winter time(wide, narrow..)?

I never used snow tires on my W202 C280, with ESP ABX, locking differential and all that stuff, the last three winters I had the car, a we have had some big snow storms, I have never gotten stuck. I have Conti Contacts on my ride. This doesn't condone not buying 4 snow tires, but I take it easy, don't rush and haven't got stuck yet. I live on a crest of a hill, is I feel I am getting stuck I switch off the ESP which then changes the rear end into a locking differential tupe set up and I have always made it into the driveway.
But as I said I am not condoning no using them. The Goodyear Blizzik (? spelling) got the highest rating of any snow tire in a magazine last year, so it is a good choiced. Get four you got to steer also.

I got in some close problems last year and i will not take any more chances.. at 25-30 km/h i got into an
unwanted long drift.. lucky me-it was clear... And many times i got some (push) support:
..
I finally got dunlop winter sport M2.. they seem okay but no snow yet..
I think there might be a problem on my rear tyres: got 4 225/45 R17 and they look a bit too small for the
back of my car(the rims are wider than the tyres and there is no protection for them....)

I've been driving my 99 C280 without snows for 3 winters now, snowy ones at that. With the ESP, ABS, ASR, and TC and of course sensitble driving in that kind of weahter I have never had any problems.
