Default C Class crank sensor

I have a 1996 C180 Elegance Automatic, which has covered 50,000 miles since new and always been serviced by Mercedes-Benz.

Recently, the car cut out half a mile after I had started it...

Upon investigation, the fuel pump is working correctly and delivering fuel, however, I am not getting a spark.

This leads me to think that the crank sensor needs replacing, but I am not sure. I should also say that the car is fitted with an original Mercedes-Benz alarm and immobiliser, so this could also be the cause.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.
