Default brake pads in 300E

Hi all, I'm new here.
I'm probably not your typical mercedes enthusisat.
I am a student who has kind of inherited a 300E.
The rear brakes are making a terrible noise, so I need to set about changing the pads as I can't afford for a mechanic to do it.
Trouble is, I can't seem to source a workshop manual for the vehicle.
I am not an amazing mechanic like most of you probably are, but I know my way around a bit, and have done some decent size jobs, like changing head gaskets, piston rings etc.
If someone could kindly furnish me with broad instructions for changing the pads on one of these things, it would me greatly appreciated - or if someone out there has a manual and could email a few scans of the relevant sections.

Also, it criuses at 100km/h at about 3000rpm, it seems a bit high to me. I wondered if it is not getting into top gear?

Thanks heaps in advance.
