You probably have water getting into your blower motor... if you have leaves clogged up on your windshield wiper cowl.... you probably have a water down in your blower motor.. although it could just be a bad motor or regulator. the easiest thing to do is remove the passenger side lower dash panel. then you can un plug the blower motor.

Default blower stopped by itself

turns out that the battery wasn't dead after all --apparently the blower stopped by itself (amazing how long that blower ran on battery)-- started car and warmed it up-blower came on and went off when ignition was turned off perfectly. I emptied the air scoop which was clogged and full of water as you predicted -trickle charged the battery over night and have my fingers crossed.

thanks again
