BACKFIRE CAUSES FIRE TO 300 E
I recently had a problem with my 1993 300e 2.8 Surging when i stopped or drove slow, this happened after running out of gas
the fuel pump is good, i replaced the fuel pump relay switch, and a couple days ago i went to start my car and i heard a huge backfire which resulted in my air filter assembly being completly engulfed with fire, replacing this airfilter assembly from the mercedes dealership is $392.00, first question is there any air filter assemblys that may duplicate my 1993 300 e 2.8.
i have searched various wrecking yards and the least expensive one ive found is $ 120.00,not including shipping
so if there is a mercedes model that matches up with my year and model i can look into the possibilty of someone parting out their vehicle, as it stands ive not found a 1993 300e that someone was parting out, my other concern is what on earth could cause
such an explosion like backfire to catch that assembly on fire ???
