95' S320 Throttle Body help
Hello my friends, I have question that I’m sure Sleepwalker or Lugnut will advise me on. Please if anyone else can help, jump in. My 2000' Volvo S80 T6 Turbo throttle body has failed at 50,000 miles. ( Volvo’s have gone down hill after changing the platform to front wheel drive), and added to many electronic bells and whistle check grape. I can hear them ring dollar $$ signs now. God what a ****ty car, sorry just pissed, opps sorry again. I have owned 3, never again. I know this would never happen to my Mercedes. So I’m thinking I need to Clean the TB in my S320 and its mechanical hum that’s why it still works after 140,000. Maybe Volvo can learn something from Mercedes, Lexus and Honda sure did.
Q: Do I need to remove the intake manifold to clean the TB. It looks like I can do it installed or at least clean the butterfly. I have done this in other cars BOY what difference in performance. Thank you for any help or opinion [8D]

RE: 95' S320 Throttle Body help
you don't need to remove the intake manifold.
the throttle valve is already exposed just on the end of that big hose from air intake cleaner.
just remove the air cleaner housing cover together with clamp on the throttle valve. there is a small vacuum hose attached behind that cover, so be aware.
volvo S80 have this idle speed problem because of the throttle valve which can easily get dirty. use carb cleaner. don't remove it.

The intake manifold is just as dirty as the throttle body, so that's another reason not to remove it. You want to clean it passively as you clean the throttle body.
On the other hand, you can get the throttle body a lot cleaner, especially the backside, if you remove it to clean it.

Hey Sleepwalker, thanks again for your help, I knew you would come through.
The Volvo S80 Throttle plate is accessible with very small hands. Unfortunately my Volvo is S80 T6, you can’t clean the TB throughly without removing the intake manifold. Any how the dealer did cover under the CA emission warranty. I’m selling this car before the under powered GM transmission goes. I can’t beleave Volvo has gone so far down hill, its sad.
The Volvo Forums are just full of very upset customers, I have never seen anything like it before.[&o]
