85 300SD front end woes! HELP!
Newbie here!
Recently, my wife hit a BIG deer (living in Durango, Colorado)! Got the car home and noticed severe negative camber (and major cosmetic damage to the front - grill, hood, right front quarter, right headlight assembly, radiator, etc.) Jacked up the front of the vehicle for visual inspection of front end, frame, suspension, etc. and noticed no damage. Shook front tires, no play side to side or up and down (thank goodness). Let car down and front wheels went positive camber. Replaced radiator/fluids, started her up and took her for a slow, careful drive. Front suspension felt very stiff - and tires grabbed (as well as squealed) in left or right turns (positive camber problem?). Upon return, noticed positive camber still AND front height of car VERY HIGH! Bounced on hood and very little bounce in suspension - very stiff (bounced on rear and plenty of bounce there). When I started the car again, no change in suspension height. Can't find anyone who will even look at this car in Durango - must drive 150 miles to a dealership but,,, not sure if it's safe. Got a Chiltons manual but doesn't go into detail regarding suspension, alignment or self-leveling. Any of you gurus out there have any ideas??? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I love this car but,,, not sure if she's going to be worth fixing. 1985 300SD (turbo diesel) 180,000 miles with no problems up until now.
Thanks in advance for your time (and sympathy). P.S. Your suggestions and ideas will help me decide whether to keep the car or my wife!
