I have a 1984 380 SEL 224k miles. all of a sudden whenever I'm coming to a stop the car will cut off. The RPM's would just suddenly drop and the car cuts off. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

 

Help anyone, my 84 sel is still cutting off whenever I'm decelarating. The RPM drops then it cuts off. anyone. hello hello anybody out there.

 

Sounds like ur not firing on all cylinders change ur plugs and wires first if that doesnt help let me know.

 

had exactly the same problem ... took off the idle control valve (easy), put a lot of Gumout in it, shook it up, and it's been running fine for a year .....

throttle body?

 

Idle control valve is easy to get at .. open the hood, look down, it's the thing with the two big vacuum hoses and an electrical connector ... kinda looks like it should be a fuel filter ...

give it a good fill of Gum-out ... bang it around some, blow dry it, and do it a few more times ... this amateurish procedure worked fine for me for exactly the same problem ..

if your stalling condition improves, you still may want to then buy a new one, now that you know it's the problem ... this was my plan, although i haven't done it yet after a year ... more pressing issues with the black beauty 380SL...
