Default 73 450sl Engine dead

looks like I am plunking a used engine in our beloved 450
any thoughts please as to what associated bits should go into a used engine prior to install
such as oil pump...water pump...timing?

kind Regards
james

Hello and welcome to the forum James! I'm not quite understanding what you're asking. Are you trying to salvage parts from your old engine and apply them to a new one?

I believe my engine is toast.
used engines may be no better, but I know the costs associated.
So I will keep the old dead engine in hopes of having it rebuilt sometime
my plan is to get the best highest compression used engine
put whatever new bits in it, like water oil pumps chain and tensioners etc
hope I can get another 20 years out of this fine auto

kind Regards

Thanks for clarifying - have you decided on the engine you'll be using? This needs to be known before we can suggest which parts are going to be compatible.

Hi James - that should make it a lot easier for you since you're essentially getting the same engine (for some reason I thought that you were going to get an engine from a different model and try to make it work). To help you, I'm attaching a link to our site's DIY tech articles on the R107 platform. This should make install and maintenance a bit easier for you. Hope this is useful and best of luck!

Great resource
Thanks
Not trying to rush things. I am in Canada and the engine is on order. So I need to be a bit fast ordering parts, as I really only have today.
Outside of water oil pumps. Timing components. Any other bits.
I will take the time soon to digest the procedure.
