Default 380 SL timing chain replacement

I own a 380 SL with 105K miles. I occasionally notice chain rattle on start up and am considering changing the timing chain. I have replaced the tensioner but it did not seem to make a difference. Is it difficult to change the timing chain on this vehicle? Any advice or instruction would be apprevciated.

thanks....Frank

Default RE: 380 SL timing chain replacement

I to own a 380sl that needed a timing chain. I found a very usefull thread you might try. Go to http://www.mercedesshop.com you'll find a thread on Timing Chain Replacement. It's for a 1972 280se, but it works very well for the 380. I used it. It took me about 3 hours start to finish. By the way, it only cost me about $70 plus three pairs of vise-grips. You'll see what I mean about the vise-grips when you see the thread.
