The C/S button on my 2006 C220 CDi does absolutely nothing and this question has been asked several times with no answer. I was hoping that by pushing it the fuel economy would increase 25%, wishfull thinking.

I think in some the sport mod only changes the transmission gearing,in comfort mod the vehicle starts off in second followed by shorter shifts. It does not change the shocks for a firmer or softer ride. But this is only my guess no expert by any means.

The button does not alter the suspension at all,c stands for comfort and s stands for standard as I understand it not sport.

Default From my manual

Press program mode selector switch
repeatedly until the letter of the
desired program mode appears in the
multifunction display.
Select
C for comfort driving:

The vehicle starts out in second
gear (both forward and reverse) for
gentler starts. This does not apply if
full throttle is applied or gear
range
1 is selected.

Traction and driving stability are
improved on icy roads.

Upshifts occur earlier even when
you give more gas. The engine then
operates at lower rpms and the
wheels are less likely to spin.
Select
S for standard driving:

The vehicle starts out in first gear.

 Upshifts occur later.

i had exactly this question and i think you guys have virtually cleared it all up for me...

i say 'almost' as i have a final question that was mentioned by Gary Smith....is there any difference at all in fuel economy between the gearbox modes?
