ok here it is. I have a 02 S430 with 42k on it now. yesterday, i had a problem with the shifter - full factory warranty, fine. so i bring it to the dealer. they fix it and do my service B. perfect. pick it up today (friday mind you), drive 160 miles, back into my driveway & it brakes again. I back into my driveway like i always do, put it into park & the car rolls down the driveway. the shift indicator on the dash recognizes the shifter shifting, but the car is stuck in reverse. The linkage falls off (or did when they fixed it yesterday) problem is, its now friday night and they are closed until monday. I am good with mechanics -how hard to find out where the linkage fell off & fix it myself? please help! I just put my new wheels on an hour ago & can't go show them off!

Dont believe there is any linkage. Its all electronic. Did you spill any fluid near or around your shifter? Like water or coffee?? Happens a lot and the shifter needs to be replaced. If thats not it, than your parking paw could be broken.

 

you need to go under the car.

bring a plastic strap or thin wire to attach it temporarily. the lock must have fell off.

just hook it back in place.
