2002 C230 CD Changer????
Hi,

I just purchased a 2002 C230 Kompressor and it came with the Bose system that has CD changer compatability but no changer. I have been in the car audio industry for a long time but have never dealt with a new Mercedes. Is there an adaptor or aftermarket way to install a changer to the factory deck without using an FM modulator??? I really dont want to spend $400-1200 on the factory changer if I dont have to. Please help if you can.

Thank you,

2002 C230 CD Changer????
I know very little about the technicalities of installing a CD changer, but my understanding of the Bose system in the C's is that they use fiber-optic cables and that not just any player would be compatible with the system.

When I bought my C, the dealer told me about an audio installer that they worked with who sold the Mercedes changer (I think Pioneer makes it) for half the cost...this was when MB still wanted $1200 to put it in a C class. I think the price from MB has come down considerably since then...

My recommendation? If at all possible, buy your changer from the dealer and have them install it. I'm on my third changer because of a defect that the they seem to have. Two have broken in the same way (they just stop recognizing that CDs are loaded in the magazine), and fortunately, my dealer has made good on them...but I know that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere if I went back to the original installer. Warranty is key!

Good luck!
