2001 s430 dash light out
my 2001 s430 dash light(s) went out suddenly. All gauges and instruments are working fine. No malfunction is displayed. I cheked fuse and it is okay. I did replace it and nothing changed. Also on fuse map, instrument cluster states 3 fuses: f20,f21,f22 5 amp each, but in fuse box only one fuse in f21 slot, other two are empty. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks
Hi the check i have done was helpful to say .That 4 years ago Mercedes did a recall on this problem ,reason is a faulty cluster .And they told the owner to get in touch with M/B for a replacement .So do a check on recals on your car and see if it was right.
DG got it .Can you use the GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE ? if so go to the site and in the search box put in FUSES AND RELAY LOCATIONS DESIGNATIONS S CLASS CL CLASS .. Just been in and i can see you have 3 fuses for the instrument cluster . Check it out its very useful. Please let us know .
Thanks for the information, I have almost exhausted my research into this. The recall did not affect my MB because of the VIN not being part of it. This is from MB both in the USA and Canada. The part in Canada is $2073 with an additional $180 to ensure it is coded or synchronized with old dashboard cluster. I am looking into an LED refit on it that I found through YouTube, but again it is in the US and must ship the dashboard cluster there first. So that may not happen.
Know anyone interested in a 2001 S430 in good running condition but without dashboard illumination?

This is a rheostat ot petentiometer for better word .It turns up and down you dash lights . You will have to check if you have this adjustment **** in the console to sdjust you cluster lights. On my car its also for adjusting the oddometer .It some times works, and more than not, it wont .If you have this said **** dont go mad with it as it adjusts the oddometer and can end up with more problems. The dash will need removing i would do this anyway to find the problem ,could be a plug thats come out .I will have a fuse on there as well and a relay. You may not have this pentiometer on your oddometer i dont know.
DG check this out .Can you go to Google Search put in ----

Also google again No Dash Light On My Mercedes S 430. On this one he pulled his and had a rebuild. Another said water can get in through the vents under the front window .With the bonnet up you will see a wafle grill by the wipers under it sits a funnel that gets blocked with debris ,this lifts out, but be carefull not to brake it .Clean out the rubbish in there. If the water gets in it can damage a lot of electrical items inside the car dashboard .
