Hopefully posting this in the correct location.

I have a 1991 MD 300D that has been running flawless for 3 yrs and just the other day I went to put it inot reverse and it locks up the transmission. Step on the gas and it taxes the motor and tranny but moves no where. I thought it was possibly stuck brake shoes but no luck, rolls in neutral no problem- all other gears work. Local transmission shop has no idea and wants $3000.00 to fix it(once they figure out whats broke inside)

Has anyone experianced this failure and maybe have any tips on what might be a possible fix?

Thank you for your response, I did install the shift kit six months ago for other reasons and things worked better. I just picked it up from the tranny shop and its a broken spragg?? they do not work on mercedes so it has to go to a speciality shop to be repaired. I tried to find a used transmission online but no luck.

once I get it back from repair I would like to up the power, my turbo seems to have weaked to the point i don't really feel it kick in anymore.

and performance tips for adding horse power to these 5cyl 2.5 motors?
